Please, do not base your knowledge on Korean culture due to K-pop.
I don’t mean this in a rude way, I’m just saying because too many base their thoughts on Korean culture from what they’ve seen in K-pop.
Looks wise, yeah it’s pretty accurate.
This is going to be based on my experiences and knowledge I’ve gathered from family members, etc.
There’s no actual reason other than most people in Korea see people with pale skin to be more beautiful.
My grandmother said most Koreans have been like this for a very long period.
Back then and even now, it’s believed people with paler skin came from a wealthy family since they didn’t have to go outside much and darker skinned people were poor who worked in the fields and such.
It’s like Whites and Africans.
Whites thought/think they were/are better because of their skin colour. (This is/ was the general reason why whites saw/see themselves better).
Pretty much the same thing, except this is between same ethnicity.
Now, not every Korean thinks this way.
But, the majority does.
Fucked up if you asked me.
— The majority of Japan doesn’t think this way though.
Majority really doesn’t give a shit about skin colour nowadays.
I’ve even met people in Japan who want to darken their skin; I have yet to meet a Japanese who wants to whiten their skin, which there probably are some, but not many.
I can’t really say anything for other Asian cultures.
Hope this helped!
